THE BELCOURT CLUB

Our mission is to bring the captivating stories of art, history, and culture to the masses, enriching lives through immersive gallery exhibitions, mesmerizing concerts, engaging social gatherings, enlightening speaker series, and more. Set against the picturesque backdrop of Belcourt of Newport, the iconic Gilded Age Mansion, we aim to inspire, educate, and foster a deep appreciation for the arts and humanities, inviting visitors to embark on a transformative journey of discovery and connection with the rich tapestry of human creativity and heritage.

For over a century, Belcourt of Newport has stood as an iconic beacon of elegance and inspiration. This historic estate has played host to an illustrious array of celebrities, dignitaries, and even the cameras of renowned television shows. Its storied halls have witnessed countless moments of grandeur and cultural significance, from opulent gatherings to thought-provoking discussions. It continues to serve as a steadfast catalyst for the advancement of life and culture, embodying the spirit of a bygone era while shaping the future for generations to come.

HISTORY

Belcourt was constructed between 1891 and 1894 for Oliver Hazard Perry Belmont, a prominent American socialite and coachman. Belmont commissioned the renowned architect Richard Morris Hunt to design the mansion with top-of-the-line accommodations for his collection of horses and automobiles.

The Belmonts used Belcourt as a gathering place for society's elite, hosting lavish parties, balls, and other social events. This attracted notable figures from politics, business, and the arts.

After Oliver died in 1908, the house passed through several different owners and was even the original site of the Newport Jazz Festival before finally being purchased by Carolyn Rafaelian in 2012. The house has embarked on an extensive restoration project to bring the mansion back to its original splendor, aiming to preserve its historic features and add modern amenities.

THE MUSEUM AT BELCOURT

Designed by Richard Morris Hunt, architect for the pedestal of the Statue of Liberty, Belcourt of Newport will become the permanent home for artifacts acquired from the 1986 Statue of Liberty restoration. We will offer visitors a unique chance to engage with this iconic symbol of freedom. Dedicated to sharing the captivating stories of art, history, and culture with the public, our mission is to enrich lives through gallery exhibitions, concerts, social events, and speaker series.
